June 2, 2014: A woman reads 'A Guide to Civil Resistance' during a protest against the Thai military coup in Bangkok on May 9. About eight people gathered at the Chong Nonsi intersection in Bangkok to silently read George Orwell's '1984' & other books about civil disobedience. The protests are based on the 'Standing Man' protests that started in Turkey last summer. Authorities made no effort to stop the protest or interfere with the people who were reading.

These amazingly colorful pictures are made by artist Joe Mangrum, who 'paints' them by letting 36 colors of sand flow gently from his hands. The vibrant art can take up to eight hours a day to make — yet a gust of wind or a rain shower can wipe away the work in seconds.

An Indonesian boy looks at dead fish in Maninjau Lake in Agam regency, West Sumatra province, Indonesia, on March 18. The mass deaths were apparently caused by a sudden change in weather conditions, according to fishery officials.

Indigenous people walk with the remains of six people who had disappeared on June 2, 1982, during the Guatemalan Civil War, at Pambach in the Alta Verapaz region. The skeletons were found during an archaeological investigation at the regional command headquarters of the Guatemalan Army. From 1960 to 1996, the army forcibly took people away who later disappeared inside the army camp. Archaeological work began on the site in 2012. So far 534 skeletons have been discovered. Reuters
