The unjustness of this sentence will be loaded with unintended consequences; of this there can be little doubt.

As we used to say in the FSoA before peaceful protest became a criminal act, "No justice-- no peace."

Hard to fathom a judge in a civilized legal system metering out a death sentence to 700 people.

Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I had hoped to start a new topic from this quote asking where people would like to travel and why, or what their memorable travels have been and why. But alas, search as I tried to no avail, I could find no new topic button. Perhaps our gracious host would be so kind as to start such a topic?

Hello GO,

I will reply to your latest passive aggressive swipe here, since I refuse the register for the open sewer operated by you and the bishop whose ring you kiss. It seems that you have taken offense to this:

About which you said:

Quote
Perhaps because I am a fan of Mr. Kunstler and his ideas, I have always found it objectionable that a poster who continually publishes Mr. Kunstler's articles corrupts the postings by inserting a picture of his own, in a prominent position above the piece.
The picture is assumed by the casual reader to be part of the article, since no source is given or the poster has the ill manners and disgusting practice of not notifying the readership that it is his, not the authors.

Don't get me wrong, Criticize all you want, lambast his ideas with impunity. Please have the class and decency to post it in it's original form or point out to the readers that you or another placed it there as a comment.

It is another practice of the censors and so called god's of the diner. They seem to think they have the right to modify the works of others, distort it with their personal views, and we are supposed to nod our approval. This was never brought up by me on the Diner because of the sheer waste of time in criticizing the censors or god's of their despicable actions and disrespect of others. We all know the replies, if any, that would have come from my voicing displeasure at this common Diner censoring tactic. It would be called "Enhancement" by the gods.

Image placed on top of Mr Kunstler's article Piketty Diketty Riketty with no mention of who placed it or source, a common Diner practice.

You know full well that I am the "poster" who publishes Kunstler each week, since RE refuses to. You could easily have directed your comment to me, but chose to strive to manufacture some sort of issue from it in a typical passive-agressive swipe. Allow me to answer you directly and honestly.

Part of the responsibility of operating a blog is to keep it entertaining, and a visual component is necessary. Diner Blog posts require illustration. As consumers of information, we are conditoned to expect images. And when such blog posts take on a second life, and are reposted in other media (such as Facebook),   FB looks for an image with which to associate the post. Hence the selection of suitable images each week to illustrate the theme. Selecting such images is akin to what a photo editor does, and it a role I take seriously. You are correct to observe that it is effectively, "comment." THat is why I have tried to take care to understand the article and to select images that reinforce the meaning of the article rather than detract.  Other bloggers, when provided a back link to their reposting at DD, have expressed gratitude for the added illustrations.

This week's image is by Anthony Freda (http://www.anthonyfreda.com), an artist whose work bristles with pungent social commentary, a visual complement to Mr. Kunstler's own work. In fact, you'll find the cited work, "The Haves and Have nots," on his main gallery page. Given the subject, I thought it quite on point:

Quote
So-called capitalism is more like gravity, a set of laws that apply to and describe the behavior of surplus wealth, in particular wealth generated by industrial societies, which is to say unprecedented massive wealth. The human race never saw anything quite like it before. It became both a moral embarrassment and a political inconvenience. So among the intellectual grandiosities of modern times is the idea that this massive wealth can be politically managed to produce an ideal equitable society — with no side effects.

Part of having responsibility is exercising it. And the result is to leave oneself open to critics. And as we have seen, everybody's a critic.

It is tiresome to work to build something, only to have it continually torn down by those who would rather criticize than contribute. In that context, a poem by John Ciardi, gone some 30 years now but still a giant, comes to mind:

In Place Of A Curse

By Ciardi, John

At the next vacancy for God, if I am elected,
I shall forgive last the delicately wounded who,
having been slugged no harder than anyone else,
never got up again, neither to fight back,
nor to finger their jaws in painful admiration.

They who are wholly broken, and they in whom mercy is understanding,
I shall embrace at once and lead to pillows in heaven.

But they who are the meek by trade, baiting the best of their betters with extortions of a mock-helplessness,
I shall take last to love, and never wholly.
Let them all in Heaven - I abolish Hell -
but let it be read over them as they enter:

Beware the calculations of the meek, who g am b led nothing
gave nothing, and could never receive enough.

And BTW, the reason the spacing on the word g a m b l e d is odd is because here, on your "First Amendment Forum" the word "gamble" gets auto-corrected.

Ironies abound.

Good morning Surly. Let me get this matter out of the way immediately. I noticed the auto censor stuff myself yesterday when I tried to place the link of JHK Clusterfuck Nation, It would not take. For some reason the words with casi will not take either.

Let me assure you and other members that this is something that was placed here by the creator of the forum before handing it over to me, or from Haniel and his previous work in that area, or perhaps imbedded in the original software.

I have tried repeatedly  to remove it without success, and will keep trying. It is not the intention of this board to Auto censor anyone's remarks, and will try to correct this unfortunate situation ASAP.

Hello GO,

I will reply to your latest passive aggressive swipe here, since I refuse the register for the open sewer operated by you and the bishop whose ring you kiss. It seems that you have taken offense to this:

Again Surly, let me explain.

Yes I did realize you posted the articles on JHK, we have discussed it before. You told me RE did not want them on the Blog because they were not long enough, and that he was having a petty argument with JHK about a cross posting issue, where JHK did not wish to publish RE"S work on his site.  It was my assumption that the unattributed image postings on JHK"S article were probably the work of RE, especially the one with the Zombie whose head was tattoed.

You are mistaken that I take offense at the picture you posted as a preface to the article. My objection is that it is not stated in this posting, or in others, that the image was placed there by you, and not the author whose work is being highlighted for perusal and comment. It has happened repeatedly and I do find it annoying. In my view it distorts the original meaning of the authors, JHK is quite capable of placing an image on his work if desired.

I then voiced my displeasure at the entire admin censoring policies of DD, something I have been known to do for quite a while. I feel that this is just one more instance of many where Admins feel they have the authority to alter postings, in this case, an eminent author of a much higher caliber than the admin crew at DD.

As I also alluded to in my posting. I was sure my declaration of annoyance with the practice would be fluffed away as mere Enhancement, as in merely making this most distinguished author more palatable and interesting to Your presumed audience. I was correct in that regard

My apologies for not being more definitive in my original posting, It was not a personal directive against you or anyone  for that matter, but a disenchantment with the policy of modifying  posts and not saying so in  that was my focus.

Ah Ciali, how fitting. Testament to The Lord's benevolence to resourceful and hardy libertare, for whom fortune favours the brave. Indulge me in another, wherewith the author of The Prince.

The Politics of Envy

Ah my uccellare,
Vettori.
You tell me of your typical day, its colour and its richness
and envy is a stiletto in me. But ah, I have my
uccellare
Vettori.

So, late from bed to the Vatican to snare the gossip of state
while I go over the stile of ambition
to snare the thrushes, in my uccellare.
Vettori.

Lunching with Cardinal de' Medici, Vettori, think of me under
the stigma of poverty breaking bread
with these diplomats of the turd, ugly peasants,
when I go down from the snare of the uccellare,
Vettori;

when if it is set fine Vettori and you ride out from Rome to

canter

in the sunny country on your fine mare, spare for your
country cousin
just a moment's consideration, for it is then I am entering the
inn
to play the rustic fool gambling with butchers and bakers.
Butchers and bakers! Me, Vettori: ah but I know
how you will rejoin, Vettori -
"You have your uccellare,
"your uccellare where you snare the poor little birds or
mull over old loves reading your Ovid. I see you now,
Niccolo, amid what bliss, what peace, what solitude
what serenity".
What balderdash, Vettori! All you would care for here
in this dismal life is the fall of day when we repair
to our respective libraries, both to dream of history
and statecraft. You might laugh Vettori at me 'plumping
and grooming' The Prince in my courtly study and robes.
Of this more in season, Vettori. It is written in secret
isolation which is my drab fortune. To her I plead
as follows:

Follow me, Machiavelli! "Now you would be a swan
to leave and egg in her belly, now turn into gold that
she might carry
you in her pocket." So long as you are forever Fortune's
favourite
as I was gonfalonier's,
bring me out of purgatory
and off this island of the Archipelago
before it shudders and dissolves and the polar
sea of oblivion rolls over my bones frozen in a lens of ice;
deliver me from purgatory, Vettori,
out of my uccellare

to the Medici.

To Lit - the bard expresses love for his former patrons the Medici, wretched in his fall from grace, accused and exiled for plotting against them.

Some 10 or so years ago I went with my entire office for a team building day and this laughter yoga was one of the exercises. I like to fancy myself as rather jovial but could not "fake it til you make it" as was the catchphrase. Meanwhile a couple of the ladies could not stop even when the exercise was over, as though they were watching a Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson film while being simultaneously tickled.

As an aside yet related thought, Peter of Toward a Better Future posted a most excellent read about Bangladesh which put in proper context is a province of India.

I started reading and contributing to The Automatic Earth and DD to find answers to that question and contribute my ideas on how Gold banishment was only one of the tools they used to enslave the SLOBS. My experience there, in a community of so called doomsters has led me to despair. I have been banished for casting Negative Waves on DD and TAE is on it's last legs on the verge of bankruptcy.

Can only say I hold out the ballot box and the internet as our last hope, but view them only as lottery tickets for success when mulling the situation over.

Well I am so sorry to hear that you are in despair but of course I often feel that way myself. You see, after viewing all the administrations from Reagan on through Clinton, the Bushes and now Obama, I do not believe that any honest person exists who can or will run for office. How does one vote for a Hillary or a Jeb Bush? I might vote for a Ron Paul though but I do not believe he will ever be actually running because he would not bow down and serve the crooks as Obama has certainly done. And especially since the US is never going to do anything significant at all about climate change and global warming and the drying up of all the fresh water, as well as death of all life in the oceans surrounding us, and the tremendous amount of nuclear radiation flowing out into the waters from Fukashima as well as the ongoing threat of nuclear disasters originating from worn plants on our own continent, I do not believe we have a chance in Hell of much of a life at all in the very near future. And also I do not see how acquiring gold is going to enable one to survive climate change and radiation either. Did Antal Fekete address any of these problems? Or did I miss it? What do you see as the best answers for these problems if you still believe in the honesty and viability of exceptional American democracy?

Yes K, the topic of gold and my preaching it's merits as a possible hedge against the financial system and it's corruptness that have been forced upon us  has nothing to do with the problems you mentioned. They are beyond my scope of understanding as to how to deal with them. The little I know about them and what I observe China alone doing in this area makes me a doomster.

I listened to a podcast last week on JHK's site"Yakking with Alice Friedman of Energy Skeptic.com." It led me to think we are doomed from the nuclear power situation alone. All the other problems insure our bleak future from what I can gather.

Sorry I cannot be more optimistic, I hate being so helpless and afraid. Gold and Finance are the only things I know a little about. As I have stated repeatedly in my postings it is my view we have been taken over by an Evil force of late that is much more powerful and destructive than our own tendencies in that regard. It is very apparent to me and I am horrified by it.

My gold contributions are only my small way of contributing to help with the financial mayhem I see directly ahead. Billions of people polluting and destroying, as well as having nuclear arms and the evil corruption that appears to me to have taken over our institutions and leaders is beyond anything I can  address, except to say it horrifies me.

If it is any consolation I view Julian Assange, Chelsea Manning, and Eric Snowden, as faint glimmers of hope that there are some good people out here who are willing to take action to combat the Evil force. The apathy towards them by the populace and their status as criminals in our democracy, however, speaks to the problems we face.

great selection GO, like our own NatGeo. The palestinians piled over the car remind me of Steinbecks Joad family and their Model T truck. We had a storm that blew the roof of my storage shed last night even though it was in a sheltered spot, 1 person killed in the storm also so I cant complain.

Have u been reading TAE lately, Illargi seems to have stepped up his game a gear, great insights.

Thanks for the compliment Walter, A great photo is something that always appealed to me as well.

Yes, Illargi is really giving it all he has, the absence of Nicole has seemed to fire him up, he is a very smart man.

Sadly, and I am not demeaning him, so please don't take it wrong, but he mentioned a while back that TAE was on the brink of bankruptcy. Perhaps we are witnessing a desperate attempt to save the place, I just don't know.

Certainly hope he can turn it around, TAE is a great place with a lot of very interesting and intelligent folks and it's demise would be heartbreaking. Hard to imagine it not being around.

Glad you escaped danger, I have had tornadoes, yes tornadoes, biting at my ass here in Boston of all places. The weather has gone "Bonkers" as they say.

Hi GO,
Today friday finally the weather has cleared after 4 or 5 days and i heard today two more dead (northern tasmania only has about 250K people). I stayed indoors almost the whole time and at times wondered if the house would blow apart, a tornado also happened about 40 miles away. Glad the tornado didnt visit you in your street of your city.

I tried to drop a subscribtion donation to TAE but was asked for more personal ID information, new australian laws apparently so decided no. I understand its possible they are concerned someone might have my card, but Im a lot more concerned that someone steals all that information out of the internet or computer than out of my posession.

Im not in a mood now to rejoin diner discussions much, maybe occasionally. My jimmies were rustled enough by that comment that something like 'you would not have much money if u did not love it' which seemed directed at me by mistaken identity. I would hasten to add to what i said already that In my ideal world people are valued for being good at things or even such things as being good looking and good luck to them if thats their thing. Its good to be blessed enough to not want for anything, but being better than most, or even with total dedication the very best at something beats money as a measure of success in my estimation. And its your own estimation of yourself u have to satisfy.

I understand Fully Unc. The Diner has pissed me off plenty of times as well, but there are folks there, yourself being one of them, that it is impossible to stay away from once you have met them and become friends. Take your time, but come back please, always looking for your postings and the pleasure of your company.

GO, excellent images here. Missing your contributions on DD.

As to the word censor, I truly doubt that anyone is modifying your forum. You may have inherited settings from Create A Forum or from RE that keep the language PG. It has been a while since I posted anything on AG's forum, but I believe that to be the case as well there.

As the admin, you ought to be able to go under admin settings and modify the censor, if you so desire. You may have to geek around to find them; I know that I have found them under the hood of DD, but never did anything with them.

Hi Surly, glad you dropped in, always a pleasure.

Yeah, the word censor stuff is small potatoes, shouldn't have even mentioned it.

Far as the Diner goes, I love the place, I'm the top poster next to RE and try to post stuff of merit and other side of the coin material to keep us from turning into a chorus of chanters singing the same tune. Every time I try and express something worthwhile I get attacked by the same two posters. He has a few bucks he sucks. He owns gaming stocks, he is going to hell, how can a Christian own a gaming stock. He buys gold and silver what a no good prick. He's rich he can't go to heaven. He has no **** common sense, all gold bugs are ass holes.
Look at his Icon, what kind of **** human being  would pick an icon like that?

I enjoy a diversity of opinion and am no babe in the woods as to insults, but I have to put up with that **** constantly and my privileges of defending myself have been stripped from me and of course the pets of the chief admin can **** over me at will with never a peep being said by an admin, while I have to live under threats of humiliating censorship and my insulting status as a newbie on trial.

After a while it gets on your ass, so I say "What am I putting up with this **** for", and leave, for a while anyway. Shortly thereafter I find myself always peeking in, wondering about other Diners, friends especially, and start to post again eventually. Something about the place, I just know I belong there and will probably come back, but for now GO being treated as a troll and scuzzball is just too much for me to take.

Nice to see Ashvin posting again; you seem to have recovered from your ordeal well, and I hope my good friend Snowleopard is well. He is such a nice guy, the way he was run out of Dodge was very painful to me. Thinking that Nobody is way over due to drop in and say hello as is Buzzard and Bot Blogger. EndisNigh seems to have blown the coop for good as well as Ross. The Diner is constantly evolving, I still miss our early days.

Thank's again for stopping in Surly, glad you got your fastball back, must have been a dreadful experience.
