Maria Sharapova former world No. 1 Russian professional tennis player. She has won 3 Grand Slam titles has been collecting stamps for a few years. Apparently she is not too happy about her hobby of stamp collecting coming out . She states "Oh, God, stop. Every one's calling me a dork now, We're getting emails from, like, stamp collecting magazines asking if I can do an interview. I mean, it's just a hobby," said Sharapova. Her agent has banned her from talking about her stamp collecting as he worried it will make her look like a nerd and not fit into the image he is trying to build of her.

In 1953 it was Wiesenthal who discovered that Eichmann had fled to Argentina - as a consequence of his sole relaxation, stamp collecting. Baron Mast, a fellow collector of stamps, showed him a letter from a former Wehrmacht friend in Buenos Aires. The writer recounted that he had met some acquaintances from their regiment, and continued: "Imagine whom else I saw… that dreadful swine Eichmann who commanded the Jews. He lives near Buenos Aires and works for a water company."

John Eleuthère duPont (1938-2010) was an American billionaire and member of the prominent du Pont family. In 1997, DuPont was convicted of murdering Olympic Gold Medalist wrestler Dave Schultz the year before and sentenced to 13 to 40 years in prison. Among his interests was a passion for stamp collecting. He died in prison on December 9, 2010. In a 1980 auction he paid $935,000 for one of the rarest stamps in the world, the British Guiana 1856 1c black on magenta pictured above. This stamp is set to be worth 5 - 6 million dollars now. His estate is still in possession of the stamp.
