Gold Coins, Beautiful Historic Treasures

There is something special about a Gold coin. It is always the best and finest work the mint of a country produces to showcase it's real money. the Five Dollar Indian Gold coin of the U.S mint has always been a favorite. It and the identical Two Dollar Fifty Cent is unique with it's incuse design. It is recessed into the coin rather than protruding. Designed by Boston Sculptor Bela Lyon Pratt, a coin that has always been a favorite of collectors and mine as well.

Example shown is the rare 1911-D 2.50, the amount of work and genius that went into this coins completion is self evident. Just gorgeous.

The ducat /ˈdʌkət/ was a gold or silver coin used as a trade coin in Europe from the later medieval centuries until as late as the 20th century. Many types of ducats had various metallic content and purchasing power throughout that period. The gold ducat of Venice gained wide international acceptance, like the medieval Byzantine hyperpyron and the Florentine florin, or the modern British pound sterling and the United States dollar.
