(b London, 10 Sept. 1908; d London, 13 Aug. 1997). British painter. In the Second World War he served with the Royal Engineers and Army Education Corps and was appointed an Official War Artist in 1945, working in Austria, Greece, and Italy. He began teaching at the Royal College of Art in 1947 and was professor of painting there from 1967 until his retirement in 1973.
